Please Insert a Usb Drive devusb000 With at Least 256mb Free and Try Again

Hi BoscoChungYT,

Welcome to Microsoft Customs :)

Information technology's my pleasure to help yous today.

I'k sorry yous've had to deal with this.

Please try to follow the steps below accordingly:

Footstep 1: Insert USB flash drive in your USB port directly, not on a USB hub. Make sure the USB is installed properly and close the AutoPlay window that might pop upwards.

Step 2:
Open up This PC, right click on your USB flash drive and select Properties.

Step iii:
Select ReadyBoost tab and tick the box that says Do Non Retest This Device.

Step 4:
Start search and type regedit. This volition open the Registry Editor.

Pace five: (you could visit the source link beneath for a more than detailed steps)

Navigate to the following registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EMDMgmt

Enable readyboost through the registry editor.
The registry editor, on this item key includes all USB drives you ever continued on your computer.

Step half-dozen:
Double click on WriteSpeedKBs and change its value data to 1000 (Decimal) or anything larger than that.

Step 7:
Double click on DeviceStatus, and change the value date to 2.

Stride eight:
This step might not exist required, depending on your device. Correct click on the bare space in that selected USBfolder and click on QWORD (64 fleck) Value and after that right click to rename the value to SpeedReadKBs and press enter. At present double click on that file and change the Value Information from 0 to 1000 and then press OK.

Stride 9:
Exit the Registry Editor, locate your flash drive in This PC, tight click on it, select Backdrop and navigate to ReadyBoost.

You might take to ask Windows to test this device again, and this time the window will present with the options to enable Readyboost.

The instructions provided past the independent advisor relates merely to USB drives that are not capable of supporting ReadyBoost while your question pertains to forcing ReadyBoost when information technology's reported that your "computer is fast enough".

Image

This ways that the independent advisor's instructions only applies to wink drives that don't meet the following requirements:

  • The wink key should be at least 256 MB in size, with at least 64 KB of free space.

  • It should have an admission time of i ms or less.

  • Should have abilities of at least a 2.five MB/sec throughput for 4 KB random reads.

  • Should take at to the lowest degree a ane.75 MB/sec throughput for 1 MB random writes.

While I also have thought, "I don't care that I take xx GB of RAM or that y'all remember my reckoner is fast enough, when I'm using then and so plan it takes upward a lot of memory (RAM) and having more should assistance things run faster so let me force ReadyBoost!" and so I can understand why you desire to do this, if you were thinking what I was thinking, then I can explain why I gave upward on this thought. Just, since yous know what you're doing, mayhap you have some other reason for doing information technology in which example this explanation is for anyone else who was thinking what I was in one case thinking.

I was nether the impression, for a long time, that ReadyBoost acted equally a substitute to RAM modules (the DDR sticks you put in your computer) since it's explained that it adds virtual RAM to your system, and while RAM does hateful, Random Admission Memory and the way ReadyBoost works is related to random reads you would recall that like to how you can add more RAM to your system if you had the slots available it is important to think that even with that, it can only support enough RAM that the board supports. But in this case, it'southward non a matter of how much it tin can support simply the blazon of usage ReadyBoost has "to increase your computer's performance".

And so when it comes to ReadyBoost, it works past creating a caching file named ReadyBoost.sfcache in the root of the device, which information technology will apply to store cached pages (the initial cache is built by querying SuperFetch'southward enshroud, but after contents are fully managed past ReadyBoost independently). Then, after the ReadyBoost service initializes caching, the Ecache.sys device driver intercepts all reads and writes to local hard disk drive volumes and copies any data being read or written into the caching file that the service created (with sure exceptions such as data that hasn't been read in a long while, or data that belongs to Volume Snapshot requests) so compresses that, typically achieving a 2:1 pinch ratio. The driver encrypts each block information technology writes using AES encryption with a randomly generated per-boot session fundamental in social club to guarantee the privacy of the information in the enshroud if the device is removed from the system.

When ReadyBoost sees random reads that tin exist satisfied from the cache, it services them from there, merely because hard disks accept ameliorate sequential read access than flash memory, it lets reads that are part of sequential admission patterns go direct to the disk even if the data is in the enshroud. Too, when reading the cache, if large I/Os have to be done, the on-disk cache will exist read instead.

This means that any fourth dimension you crave sequential read admission data to be read, ReadyBoost will laissez passer it off to your internal drives anyway and any speed gains that one hopes to attain beyond that would be frivolous since the bottleneck here is the speed transfer rate of a USB port in terms of sequential read information.

So even if y'all could force it, it wouldn't help is what that seems to exist the instance. Merely, if you really insist for psychological reasons that y'all want to do information technology anyway, you can try forcing ReadyBoost by creating the caching file manually (ReadyBoost.sfcache) on another estimator so that information technology formats the USB drive as a ReadyBoost drive then connect it to the computer you want to utilize it on.

----

In my case, I was hoping to force ReadyBoost to minimize rendering times of video since we all know that for video editing information technology requires higher VRAM. But the way ReadyBoost works, it wouldn't help with this.

Is ReadyBoost a feature bachelor on your PC? As in, it's on Windows Vista or above? I'll assume that the answer as yes considering you lot woulnd't otherwise effort to look up this question if it wasn't the case. But the reason I ask is because it is enabled past your system using the emdmgmt.dll and if you don't have it, then y'all're either missing the DLL or information technology is corrupted. Your all-time bet would be to practise an online search for the DLL and add it to your organisation directory. Be careful of which site you download information technology from every bit many DLL replacement sites volition contain bloatware or adware.

If you're referring to the registry key not exising, you could theoretically add it manually here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EMDMgmt
